DKJUCH LP1 VIV23 Granted by Celebrimbor von der Via Aries
Nenya is the last addition to the family - an Entlebucher Mountain Dog bitch imported from the German breeder Claudia Dussaussois, kennel "von der Via Aries" in Munich.
She is of a litter of 5 puppies, 4 of which were females and I was so lucky as to be allowed to choose freely between the bitches. A fantastic, but also very demanding experience to evaluate four bitches in less than two days - but the choice fell on "green puppy", as she was both outgoing and seeking company, enjoyed being close to humans, wasn't easy to scare and seemed to have a good play drive. Also, she neither seemed to let the other puppies bully her, but neither did she bully them herself. I am very excited to follow Nenya's developement into an adult female! She will be tagging along in Wupti's footsteps with Search and Rescue, as well as competition obedience and as part of my education as dog trainer. Hopefully she will become a mental and physically healthy adult - and should this happen, it is the plan to breed her - another chapter I am very excited for! <3 So I will probably be one to see at the dog shows again, after several years pause! |
Nenya's name is from the universe of Tolkien, who wrote the Lord of the Rings. Her name is the name of the elven ring that the Lady Galadriel carries - Nenya, the Ring of Adamant and Water. It has been the plan for a long time for my female puppy to have this name <3
I also was so lucky as to be allowed to choose her pedigree name, as long as first letter was G - and as the three elven rings (Vilya, Nenya and Narya) were forged by the elf Celebrimbor, one could say that Nenya was granted to me by Celebrimbor - hence Granted by Celebrimbor <3 |

Temperament
Nenya is a gentle and soft character, who wants to be in close contact with her people, to whom she is deeply devoted. She is a loyal warm cushion in the bed, as well as on the couch when enjoying a movie! At the same time as being a softy, who can hardly stand a mild corrected without the world itself falling down around her, she also reaaally knows what she wants, is very intense, not afraid of anything and jumps head first into anything, with no thought to her own comfort (thankfully, she has excellent body control!)!
She is a very excitable pup and she is indeed very playful and loves a rough game of tug of war! Ball is also good (very good!), but as I limit ball play a lot, tug of war is the best and should you lose your end, she'll put it right back in your hand - we are not done playing yet, she insists! :-) Everyone I offer the other end of the tug-toy are amazed at her strength, power, will and endurance.
Alongside with being excitable and playful, she is also the type who chills down and relaxes when nothing happens. Even if she doesn't necesarily go to bed, she will just follow you around and keep a calm eye as to what you're doing. She never seems stressed about any of the fuss going on in the household, sometimes she just decides that it is time for some playing! She is a VERY high drive and energetic dog, so you basically can't tire her out, so her ability to relax when nothing happens, is important! It also means that at whatever time you decide to do anything, she will be ready! And she is onto anything I decide to train with her. So far we've been working with both FCI Obedience, as well as Search and Rescue - and she learns incredibly fast and she WANTS to do it! Her biggest problem is to contain her excitement in training, as it stops her from effective learning and this has been a learning process for me, too, as my two other dogs I have (had) were the types I need(ed) to somewhat "hype up" during training :-)
Her guarding instincts are well preserved and if something seems threatening or is unfamiliar, she will answer the threat with barking. In spite of this, she is not a bad fence barker (that will be Wupti!). She has a natural clear preference of her family, to whom she is incredibly devoted! Strangers, on the other hand, are of no interest to her and she has this reserved Entlebucher mentality. She is happy to ignore and be ignored by people, but if they interact with her politely, she will accept them. And if they have treats, then they are besties in no time ;-)
Her interest in dogs has dwindled drastically after her second heat - before that, she loved dogs and would play "catch me if you can (but you can't!)" forever, but today she isn't too interested, though it still hits her! She has never been uncontrollable around dogs (she more or less never is!), but if allowed to say hi, then it was GAME ON when she was a puppy! It was (an still is, when it happens) so funny to see her run over to the other dog, make the playbow and then just run - and while the dog makes many shortcuts, she just runs around in circles, sometimes almost tauntingly and crashing through bushes and whatever without a care! And when the dog gives up, she comes back to pick on it, untill it starts to chase her again.
When it comes to obstacles, she just doesn't give a sh*t! She will jump through, over, push herself under anything and not give a care as to if it should hurt her, having once gotten stuck between two small tress (well, it was the fastest way! At least, she thought so), as well as fallen between stones, used a glass door to help her turn without loosing speed, etc. As you may imagine, I was very worried for her x-rays, giving she'd put herself into some quite tough situations and never cared to take a calm stroll - anything she did as a puppy - and highly still! - required speed.
She puts her heart (and body!) into anything she sets her mind on and is showing a great willingness and capability to work! And while she definitely does have opinions, she is also incredibly attentive and is mostly always off leash, as her recall is almost spotless, her hunting drive is low and her wish to seek out strangers (people or dogs) is low/easily controllable.
She IS a lover of her own voice, whether it be excitement, frustration or something strange, but we've worked a lot on it and while she can definitely still bark, it is now much less :-) A more experienced handling of her barking from the beginning would probably have helped a lot, but I have never had a barker before and I must admit, she surprised me at this, haha!
She also seems to be very sound proof and only received minimal sound training before her first two New Year's Eve (not that I'm proud of the minimal training, but I am of her!) and she didn't react to anything, but ended up rolling around on her back with her beloved antler in her mouth on her frist New Year's Eve, while it was at it's worst.
All in all, she is an absolutely wonderful dog!
